Founder Sophie of start-up creative agency Hooey was looking to create a joyful, uplifting space in an otherwise standard rectangular room. On top of requirements to cater to two full time desk spaces and a breakout space for visiting clients, the room needed to adapt quickly to a guest bedroom. Rae Wolf designed a custom bookshelf to incorporate both useful storage and a beautiful display/ Zoom background, installed a compact and stylish sofa bed, and devised a custom extra-long cantilevered desk space that was perfect for day to day studio life.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Enabling the space to work perfectly as a studio Monday to Friday, but also feel homely and cosy enough to welcome guests meant carefully balancing practicality with comfort. Avoiding typical office choices and instead opting for colourful and fun options served both the business and the guests.
Lighting and soft furnishings were a vital part of bringing atmosphere and cosiness.
STANDOUT FEATURES
Custom lilac bookshelves: The graphic wall of shelving gives the space a new dynamic and avoids the boxy feel, and houses art, plants and collectables. Incorporated into it are charging points and lamp nooks that operate as bedside lights when the room is used as a guest room.
Recycled plastic desk: The colourful flecks in this desk make for an eco-friendly and vibrant choice, and avoid the room feeling too office-like. Our careful planning on scale meant we could limit the cost of sheets and still flow the desk surface into the window nook, making it feel extra-spacious.
Studio-to-guestroom transformation: In five minutes, the bed can be made, bedside lamps and wall lights turned on, and the blackout blind at the patio doors drawn to create a haven for guests.
